What system development means to us
System development is building software that does a specific job in your business: receive orders, track stock, approve time, show the right numbers to the right person. It is not websites and it is not IT operations. It is the tooling your staff use every day and that no off-the-shelf product does well enough.
Internal tools and dashboards
What lives today in spreadsheets, email and one person's head. A system where everyone sees the same thing and nothing slips through.
Business software for your industry
Orders, quotes, stock, time, documents. Packaged systems cover the generic part; we build what is specific to how you work.
Customer portals
Let customers see status, download documents and place orders themselves. Fewer calls and emails, happier customers.
Workflow automation
When an order arrives, stock should be reserved, the invoice created and the customer notified without anyone doing it by hand.
Replacing legacy systems
A system built in 2009 that nobody dares touch. We take it over, document it and rebuild in stages with no downtime.
Integrations
The new system has to talk to finance, payroll and the web shop. That is included, not an add-on.
Build your own or buy off the shelf?
The honest answer is that a packaged system is usually enough. We say so before we sell anything. It is only when the packaged system starts dictating how you work, instead of the other way round, that building your own pays off.
A packaged system is enough when
- Your processes look like most others in your industry
- You can adapt to the system's way of working
- The need is one bounded area, such as bookkeeping
- You have few users and low volumes
Building your own pays off when
- You pay for modules you do not use and lack the one you need
- Staff have built their own spreadsheets around the system
- Several systems need to connect and no integration exists
- Your process is what makes you better than competitors
- Per-user licence cost grows faster than the business
Examples of systems we build
Each page below describes one type of system in detail: what it must handle, what usually goes wrong and how we build it.
ERP for construction
Projects, estimates, change orders and invoicing for construction companies.
Time reporting
Mobile reporting, approval and ready data for payroll and invoicing.
Warehouse and WMS
Picking, real-time stock and links to orders and web shop.
Orders and quotes
From enquiry to invoice without double entry.
Documents and contracts
Monitoring, versions and signing in one place.
Mobile apps
When the system has to follow staff into the field or reach the customer.
AI automation
Language models that read documents, sort tickets and draft replies inside the system.
How a project runs
Intro call
Thirty minutes on what you have today, what hurts and what you want to achieve. No preparation needed.
Proposal within 48 hours
You get scope, timeline and a fixed price. We split into stages so the first delivery lands quickly.
Build in short cycles
You see a working version every week and steer the priorities. No big reveal at the end.
Launch and operations
We put the system into production, train your team and stay on as technical partner for as long as you want.
What does custom software cost?
The price is set per project and fixed before we start. What drives it is not the number of screens but the complexity of what the system has to keep track of.
Roles and permissions
A system where everyone sees everything is simple. One where sales, warehouse, finance and customers see different things takes more.
Integrations
Every system to connect, finance, payroll, web shop, takes time to understand and test. Good documentation on the other side lowers the price.
Data to migrate
Ten years of history in an old system has to be cleaned, mapped and loaded without losing anything.
Mobile
If staff use the system in the field you need an app or an interface that works without coverage.
Operations and support
We run the system for you if you want. That is a recurring cost we quote separately, not baked into the project price.
A small internal tool and a complete business system are different things, and we would rather give a fixed price after a call than a range that says nothing. Book a call and you get a concrete proposal within two working days.
Technology we build with
We choose technology that lasts ten years, that you can hire for, and that you can take with you if you ever change supplier.
React and Next.js
Interfaces that are fast, accessible and work as well on a phone as in the office.
Node.js and TypeScript
One language across the stack, which makes the system easier to maintain and lets fewer bugs reach production.
PostgreSQL
A database that handles everything from ten users to millions of rows without being replaced.
AWS
Hosting that scales with you, with backups, monitoring and security as standard.
Sony Music Sweden: an internal system for releases, campaigns and artists
Case
We designed and built Sony Music Sweden's internal project management system, which coordinates releases, marketing campaigns and artist collaborations across the Nordics. We also built a separate link management system for campaign links. The systems are in daily use and we run them.
Read the full caseRelatedShould the system be available to customers or partners outside the company? Then we are usually talking about a web application or customer portal.
Common questions about custom software
What does custom software cost?
It depends on how many roles, integrations and data volumes the system has to handle, not on the number of screens. We always give a fixed price before we start, after an intro call and within 48 hours. The price is split into stages so the first working version arrives quickly and you can stop there if it is enough.
How long does it take to build an internal system?
A first working version of a bounded internal tool normally takes a few weeks. A complete business system with several roles and integrations takes months, but we deliver in stages so you are using the system long before everything is done. You see progress every week.
Should we buy a packaged system or build our own?
Buy when your processes look like the industry's and you can adapt to the system. Build when the packaged system forces staff to work around it, when several systems need to connect and no integration exists, or when your process is what sets you apart. We tell you honestly which applies to you.
Who owns the code and data?
You do. All source code, all data and all accounts belong fully to you from day one. There is no lock-in and no licence fee to keep using what we built. You can take the code to another supplier at any time.
What if we want to change supplier later?
Then you take the code, documentation and data with you. We build with mainstream technology, React, Node.js, TypeScript and PostgreSQL, precisely so other developers can take over without starting again.
Can you take over a system someone else built?
Yes, that is common. We start by reading the code, documenting how the system works today and setting up monitoring. Then we improve in stages rather than rewriting everything at once, so the business never stands still.
Do you only work in Stockholm?
We are based in Stockholm and happy to meet clients here, but we work with companies across Sweden and the Nordics. Most meetings during a project happen over video, and weekly demos work just as well remotely.
What is the difference between system development and web development?
Web development is about sites that need to be found and convert visitors. System development is about tools staff use every day to get work done: orders, stock, time, documents. We do both, but systems are what we are best at.
